IFDIS and IFDIS 2.0 ITAs

Engineered-to-order Interface Test Adapters are required for testing Line Replaceable Units (LRU) / Weapon Replaceable Assemblies (WRA) to be connected to Intermittent Fault Detection (IFD) technology.

Portable IFD ITAs

Engineered-to-order Interface Test Adapters are required for testing Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS) / cable harnesses to be connected to Intermittent Fault Detection (IFD) technology.

Portable IFD Patch Cables

Patch Cables allow for use of previously procured cable sets.  Leveraging Universal Synaptics’ patented AutoMap feature, users can connect existing cable sets via Patch Cable adaptation to the IFD.  The patch cable provides verification and validation that existing cable sets are intermittent free and then are leveraged for full intermittence EWIS testing.

IFD Interface Test Adapter Certification Program

To become an IFD ITA Manufacturing Certified Facility, Universal Synaptics has established a program to ensure the fidelity of manufactured interface cables sets that connect to patented IFD technology.  These Interfaces must be of the utmost quality and must be intermittent free themselves to provide accurate results for testing with IFD technology or any tester in the market.  Cable sets must be verified as intermittent free before they are connect to any UUT.  This fact is often overlooked and causes test result issues even when a solid test plan or procedure is implemented.

Over the past decade, the IFD has exposed another major issue in the test and diagnostic community – intermittent faults in new manufactured interface cables as well as in aged, used interface cables alike.

Certification requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Engagement in the design, manufacture, repair, and/or test of Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS) and have one of the following:
    • Approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a 14 CFR Part 145 MRO
    • Certification under AS9100 in good standing
    • Certification under ISO9001:2015 in good standing
    • Demonstration of quality product output and onsite inspection
  • Ownership and active operation of MIL-PRF-32516-compliant Intermittent Fault Detection (IFD) Equipment having an adequate number of circuits/channels to provide full coverage test of manufactured ITAs for which it is certified to verify as intermittent free

IFD ITA Manufacturing Certified Facilities include:

  • Lockheed Martin
  • Star Aviation
  • Universal Synaptics
  • Additional facilities pending
