W. David Chambers, Universal Synaptics Corporation President and CEO is a co-owner of the Company and has more than 30 years of executive level management experience in a variety of industries. He has a strong and extensive background in managing and growing complex and diverse organizations.
Following graduation from Weber State University, Mr. Chambers, a Certified Public Accountant, began his career with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells. He then spent 10 years with Anderson Lumber Company in Ogden, Utah as Vice President and CFO. During his tenure with Anderson Lumber, revenues grew from $20 million to $80 million. Mr. Chambers then moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where he was President and CEO of Babbitt Brothers Trading Company for 10 years and then President and CEO of the Grand Canyon Railway for 10 years.
Babbitt Brothers Trading Company was a diverse operation with 47 profit centers ranging from home centers and general merchandise retail stores to Native-American trading posts and cattle ranches. The company generated revenues of $72 million with 800 employees. Following a dramatic improvement in earnings and liquidity, Mr. Chambers lead the effort to sale most of the company assets.
With 500 employees, the Grand Canyon Railway generated revenues of $40 million. During Mr. Chambers’ 10 year tenure with the Railway, the number of passengers doubled while revenues grew by 300%. In 2007 Mr. Chambers negotiated a very successful sale of the company.
Mr. Chambers has been very active in community and civic affairs having served as the Vice Chairman of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Flagstaff Economic Council, Inc. and the United Way of Northern Arizona. He has also served as the Chairman of the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, the Flagstaff Forty and the Continental Country Club.
Mr. Chambers has also served on numerous boards and advisory councils including First State Bank, Norchem Labs, the Governor’s Tourism Advisory Council, the Arizona Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee, Northern Arizona University President’s Advisory Council and the Arizona Board of Regents Business Advisory Team.
